A few years back, I started doing a radio show on my local Community Radio station, 100.7 WFCB-FM. Originally, it was research for a book I was writing, but it wasn't long before I was hooked. I wanted to do something like the radio shows I wrote about in BEAUTIFUL MUSIC - Free-Form Underground FM radio, 60s and 70s style, when you could hear all kinds of different music on one eclectic radio show.
My show is called RETRO GROOVE. It's retro and retro-influenced music - Rock, Jazz, Blues, Soul, Sunshine Pop, Garage, Exotica, Psych, Avantgarde, Lounge, Country, Weird, Funk, Remixes, International and more, filled with obscure and arcane information about the artists, the music and the very musical city I grew up in, Detroit.
Before long, the station started streaming on the internet which opened RETRO GROOVE up to many more listeners. No, the audience still isn't huge, but the satisfaction I get from doing it is. The show is broadcast every Friday and Sunday evening from 7-9pm Eastern Time. You can listen live at https://ferndaleradio.com/ or on the Live365 app. You can also listen to archived episodes of RETRO GROOVE on Mixcloud. www.mixcloud.com/RetroGrooveShow/
